The Marlins Summer Swim Team trains daily at Lambert Pool. Swimmers 5-8 years of age must swim 25 meters independently and swimmers 9-19 years of age must swim 50 meters independently. Assignments to skill-appropriate practice groups and competitive events are at the discretion of the coaching team. Swimmers are expected to attend daily training which emphasizes on learning and fine-tuning strokes consistent with USA Swimming standards for freestyle swim, butterfly stroke, backstroke, breaststroke, entries, exits, starts, turns and finishes. The program is open to the first 125 boys and girls from ages 5-19 years prior to June 1st of the current swim season. High school graduates may participate the summer immediately following their senior year if they have not attended college full-time or participated on a collegiate team prior to June 1, 2018.
The Pre-Competitive “Mini-Marlins” Program is open to swimmers entering kindergarten or older who are not yet familiar with basic competitive strokes or able to swim the entire length of the pool independently. Participants must be comfortable with entering the pool and capable of following the coach’s instruction. Swimmers in this group will have the opportunity to develop endurance and learn basic swim techniques required for competitive swimming. Swimmers who sign up for this group should be prepared to transition at any time during the swim season once the coach recommends advancement to competitive Marlins; likewise parents will be expected to volunteer during swim meets once transitioned.
